John R. Snider, VP External Affairs
Arch Coal Inc.
John R. Snider is the Vice President External Affairs, Eastern Operations for Arch
Coal Inc., a position which he has held since 2000. John is based in Charleston, West
Virginia, but represents Arch Coal in West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky, and Illinois. He
also represents Arch Coal on many production issues in Washington D.C.
John received his B.A. from Marshall University and his MPA from West
Virginia University, also attending the Industrial Development Institute at Oklahoma
University. After his schooling, John was an industrial development representative for
the West Virginia Department of Commerce, subsequently taking a job as the president
and vice president of the Morgantown Industrial/Research Park. Just prior to taking the
job with Arch Coal, John was the director of industrial development and executive
director of the West Virginia Development Office.
John is the past chairman of the Morgantown Area Chamber of Commerce, and is
a member of the board of directors for the following organizations: West Virginia
Chamber of Commerce, Kentucky Coal Association, Virginia Coal Association, and the
West Virginia Coal Association. John is also a member of the Southern States Energy
Board and an executive committee member of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce.
